Moderation Transparency Report

TalkWithStrangers.club publishes a moderation transparency report every quarter. The first report covers our first full quarter of operation and is published here when that quarter ends. This page explains exactly what we will report and how we count it.

How We Count

Each report states the period, data sources and any change in method since the last report. We do not round up, estimate or publish figures we cannot verify.

Our Enforcement Commitments

  • Child-safety reports are reviewed before all others.
  • Every report is reviewed by a person, not only by software.
  • Banned users are blocked at device level.
  • Appeals get a human decision.

Why We Do This

Random chat has a history of opaque moderation. Publishing real numbers, even small ones, is how we earn trust.

Why Transparency Matters in Random Chat

Random chat has a history of opaque moderation. Users, parents, regulators and journalists rarely know how many reports a service receives, how quickly it acts or how many accounts it removes. Publishing those numbers, even when they're small or unflattering, is how a service earns trust.

Report Format

Each quarterly report will include:

  1. Summary: the key numbers in one paragraph.
  2. Data tables: every metric listed above, with the period covered.
  3. Changes: anything we changed in policy, filters or tools during the quarter.
  4. Method notes: how each number is counted and any changes in counting.
  5. Child safety section: removals of suspected minors and referrals to authorities.
  6. Appeals: how many decisions were appealed and overturned.

What We Won't Do

We won't publish estimated or rounded-up figures, compare ourselves to other services using their unverified numbers, or leave out uncomfortable data. If a number gets worse, we'll publish it and explain what we're doing about it.

Related Commitments

  • Child-safety reports are reviewed before all others.
  • Every report is reviewed by a person.
  • Serious violations lead to device-level bans.
  • Appeals receive a human decision.

Definitions We Use

Reports: each report submitted by a user, counted once even if several people report the same message. Enforcement actions: each warning or ban applied, counted by type. Review time: from the moment a report is submitted to the moderator's decision, reported as a median. Suspected minors removed: accounts removed under our adults-only rule. Referrals: cases escalated to authorities.

Our Moderation Approach in Brief

Automated filters stop many harmful text messages before delivery. People review every report. Enforcement escalates from warnings to permanent device-level bans. Child-safety cases are handled first and referred to authorities where required.

Transparency Beyond Numbers

Alongside quarterly data, we keep our Community Guidelines, Privacy Policy and How It Works page up to date, so anyone can see how the service runs.

Commitments We Hold Ourselves To

  1. Publish every quarter, on time.
  2. Use the same definitions each time, and explain any changes.
  3. Include child-safety data.
  4. Include appeals and overturned decisions.
  5. Correct any published error openly.
